"dchs summer reunion"
DECEMBER 30,2009
as most of you, forum members have learned, heard and read by now,the suggestion for the summer reunion lost to the december reunion advocates by a landslide vote(176-44 as per figures supplied to me...are you kidding me?).
obviously, each of us have our own personal reasons why it is best to hold the reunions during summertime and in the same token,we ought to give respect to the majority vote.we might not agree with the school's alumni association call on such votes but they are the primary mover of these reunions and there is no way to convince them otherwise.
the www.diatagon.com forum members have discussed this summer reunion lengthily in the past and, personally,i couldn't agree more with the reasons given.
let me refresh everyone the reasons that most of us shared:
(1).december is for family reunions TRADITIONALLY.the "outsiders" who come for vacations couldn't just squeeze time for these school reunions.regardless how we all look at it,it is very impossible to travel going to diatagon since we are preoccupied with family reunions.WE DON'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF TIME TO TRAVEL FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER.
(2).for the common workers among us,locals or from abroad,it is impossible either to request for a personal time off let alone to take a long vacation.most of us don't have the clout to convince our superiors to give us the time off to attend such events.
(3).APRIL IS VACATION TIME.SUMMERTIME IS THE TIME FOR SUCH RELAXATIONS.
(4).and,although i really don't want to include this reason,it is a legitimate reason,no matter what:CHEAPER FARES.isn't it that we already kind of "recovered" from our december expenses and we might have enough savings to spend a little bit of the extra to attend such reunions during summertime?
all things considered, and as we have all witnessed,we just got kicked and punched in our noses, summertime advocates.in short,we got outnumbered and obviously, got outvoted big time.until the DCHSAA will reconsider their stand on the voting process that they took, and until they take our suggestions and look into this matter seriously,we will never get our wish.most of the forum members are solidly behind the holding of said event in the summertime, but, then, again, our "lack of coordination" with the alumni board may have factored in.
let me just suggest to the alumni association that they consider ABSENTEE VOTING the next time they hold it.for,if they really consider us as their fellow alumni, they would surely listen to this suggestion.or,isn't it right that the board discuss and decide this suggestion only among themselves and not through a general assembly?
until then, all we can do is hope that the alumni association will see our reasons.

To whom of may concern:
I for one is very much disappointed and so dismayed with the result of the system of how the summer proposal re: DCHS Alumni reunion been treated, i feel personally that the older batch like the 70's and early 80's and those who are out of the country working abroad are being outcast and or no longer a part a of the DCHS Alumni. Is it because we've never been able to attend any of that occassion ever since? Is it because we are living already very far? The Association itself must have a wide thinking of considering us who can't travel during December time. I am not only looking at the side of the DCHS Alumni who lives abroad but from the Alumni who lives in Luzon and in Visayas who can't easily travel because of the time constrain. I believe those who attended this year reunion are mostly from the places very near in Diatagon and the new graduates from the year 2000, so therefore those Alumni who were absent but has a great desire to attend such occassion will lost in voting, but i just wish the Board Members of the Association have explain very well our reason why we ask for them for the summer reunion. I guess not anyone from the Board Members really care about the older batch. Thank you

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
YES! NANG AL'S was Perfectly Right....
1) Like Me, I was able to attend the alumni homecoming to crowned the reigning Ms. Alumni 2009 but i can't make it because the time was very limited. We cannot assure that we had always a good weather.Luckily now, we don't experience a low pressure area. Now, Ms. Alumni 2009 also from Luzon, so its fine, if she can attend alumni next year,if not...? SI MS. PROXY ULI?
2)The younger one's can easily go through the celebration of Christmas with their family coz they are come from the nearby provinces, and am pretty sure they went home weekly or monthly.
3) They said December is a Family Bonding, yes! that's true , that's why we stay to our Family...What they mean? ...sila lang magbonding mga duol kita dili? ato biyaan ang ato family every year? So, if December is the Month of Family Bonding...Dapat, we have a Separate Date for Alumni Home Coming...There should be another Day for it..para magbonding sab ang mga alumnae's ....
4)How we can we enjoy for only one Night? dili pa gani magkadungganay sa ka banha sa sonata?Ang mga silingan sa una , Hi! ug Hello lang ang masabi?
5)We are talking here not only for our own good ... Tana bago sila magdecide sa voting process gi explain nila usa ang duha ka side..But for me, Voting process is not applicable...dapat sila mismo nga mga member ng association ang nagtimbangbang...wala unta nila ihatag sa tawo ang decision...kay ang uban wa naminaw sige ra ug sayaw hands-up lang bisan wa kasabot unsay ila gibotohan...
6) HOW ABOUT THE FARE? OK..IF THERE IS AN AIRLINE PROMO...IF NONE..NOT EVERYBODY CAN AFFORD...(WALA NAKO MALIITA ANG UBAN PERO YAN ANG KATOTOHANAN) SO WE TAKE SHIP...FOR HOW MANY DAYS? HUMAN NA ANG CELEBRATION GALAWIG PAKA...KUNG KA AFFORD NAMAN TANAN FULLY BOOK PUD...OMG...
THE DECISION IS FINAL...SO...GOOD LUCK NA LANG SA NEXT YEAR HOST BATCH.....harhar:
December 25,Christmas
Day..Dec.26,27,28,29,30,31 FAMILY REUNIONS..JANUARY 01, NEW YEAR..NEXT.IST DAY OF SCHOOL/WORK DAY....RUSH...RUSH...RUSH... I THANK YOU...

My insights.. point of view... share of thoughts... etc....
The overwhelming speculations and expectations to hold the first ever DCHS Alumni Homecoming in summer of next year 2010 had already put to rest after the much awaited deliberation by the Officers of DCHSAA during the December 29, 2009 Homecoming hosted by batch 1984.... that ANNUAL homecoming .. still in favor of "DECEMBER". How I tried to convinced the officer/s of DCHSAA during my previous visits in Diatagon, they even mentioned the "Ladanans" as one of the proponents also, as I was not alone in that endeavor for the switching of DCHS homecoming as discussed favorably in our forum. Anyway, I understand the decision is not alone to carry out by the DCHSAA but to consult every members of the association.. so they came up with the decision... VOTING, with two (2) options given, "YES to SUMMER" and "NO to summer". Ironically, the traditional (NO TO SUMMER) emerged as the majority garnering 176 votes versus "YES TO SUMMER" with a meager 44 votes of course minus the on-line voting as this was not prescribed or does not form part of the criteria. Per information relayed to me by our avid members of our websites, Mr. Jun Abines & Ms. Daday Basadre-Calis who have gone their way to Diatagon to attend such annual gathering of DCHS graduates, the young breed of Alumni or shall we say, the "YOUNG ONES" had much strong forces of attendees who favored DECEMBER outnumbering the "ONCE YOUNG" who explicitly initiated & authored much of the amendment. We left no choice but to respect the majority and respect the verdict (could it be subject to protest???).We have solid stand on our side that "WHY ON SUMMER?" as we explained/ discussed it with DCHSAA officer/s, to recapitulate everything, as earlier mentioned... at least an ample time to prepare for those Alumni who are now living and working across the miles... miles away from Diatagon, booking & scheduling is not too hectic compared to December that is mostly for family reunions/personal by nature. If ever SUMMER wins, we can somewhat bring our families for a visit once again the place that was part of our yesteryears, the missing link of our past of where we are now, Diatagon, the cradle of our youth. The DCHSAA somewhat at first amenable with our proposals (I even thought good as approved..) for they found it valid and reasonable. However the need to consult some members must prevail and be given due course... so it was. As ONE FAMILY belongs to ONE ALMA MATER, we still need to give our wholehearted support to our Association most especially to our institution, the DIATAGON CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL for betterment, Camaraderie & Fellowship being DICAHISians... DECEMBER still our month for DCHS Graduates gatherings.... (unless otherwise we will ask for further consideration)....CHEERS..!!!

I really disappointed by this development, after we proponents for summer reunions lay down our cards the essence of summer reunion, I think the Alumni association missed some important points that:
1. reunions are not only for newly graduates.
2. the feelings and importance of the graduates of 1960s, 1970s and 1980s (all over the Philippines and across the globe).
3. reunion is not only for merry making but also for discussions of programs beneficial for the school, alumni and current students of the school. Perhaps,we can do that during reunion.
Our Batch is the next host for 2010 homecoming, I can not guarantee I will attend, but still hoping for a success homecoming in 2010.

Novy, Aleli,Rhona,Sammy and Joey you have well presented your argument for the holding of Homecoming on summer instead of Christmas,of which I am a proponent too. I do not need to add to the argument. I just hope that the movers have properly exercised the democratic process,of which they used,e.i put the argument on the floor and have it voted. If they have then we rest our case. But since we firmly believe that the reunion should be held on summer because it the most viable schedule for all,not for one nor for some but for all. We will continue to convince them to look at it in Christian way, correct? As of the result of the votation let us trust them for their decision. We may not agree with it. But we are in a democracy, Sammy is correct. Let's concur and repect the decision.

Hi everyone! being one of the alumni who attended the homecoming last December 29, I was also disappointed of the voting process held for the re-scheduling of alumni homecoming, at first it was only announced by the emcees before the program started that somebody will be distributing piece of paper for you to write yes for summer reunion and no for those who want to stay on December and that's all... i was expecting that somebody from the DCHSAA will explain reasons, advantages and disadvantages for that summer homecoming proposal and because there is voting, the attendance should be determined if it constitute a qourom but again wala in short deretso lang to nga process, when the voting started I asked the facilitator if I can vote for those who are not attending the homecoming but they are sending their intentions to vote for YES, immediately they answered a big NO, so wala nako nakiglalis kay saba kaayo sa gym unya arang ka busy sa mga tawo nag sigi ug storiahanay, nangampanya nalang ko to vote yes pero unsaon ang ako madool mga contemporaries ug mga older/elder batches raman. During the program the emcees announced the result of the voting, 176 for NO and 44 for YES, natingala mi human na diay? then the program continue... I interviewed one from the younger batches, and their reason is, naa daw sila summer classes while sa December it's a holiday, sure gyud sila nga maka attend, ing ana ra ila panan-aw but if it could have been explained seguro ma convince sila. After ko naka sayaw gamay niuli nako kay buntag na, nag abot mi sa gate ni maridel arnigo the treasurer, she even commented that kulang ug pasabot ang gihimo nga voting, in fairness to them ma sense nako nga they are for summer but because they expected na modaug ang summer wala na kaayo nila na hatagan ug concentration kay kada maestorya ok man sa summer not thinking nga ang kada pud maestorya mga kaedad ra wala ang mga batan-on, so mao na ang nahitabo... outnumbered gyud ang mga older/elder batch kay naa man gani tag-usa ra sa ilang batch ang nitunga kay gipang rayuma kuno hehehe... sorry tood sa batch nga wala nako makodaki kay unsaon grabe nako ka busy ato sa pikas kamot naay camera sa pikas naay celfon kay daghan monitoring ato nga panahon hehehe nag open pa ko ug laptop sa gym maayo gani kay nag lowbat kay kung wala ambot unsa ako unahon, dili pa gyud magamit sa SADSAD ako step in hahaha adto nalang mo tan-aw kang jun abines kay nag video to sya...

I think respective teams are all cleared as stated above... we know what team where we belong....
..hehehehe anhi na gyod makita ang katag...... mahulog ni ug VETERANS VS. ROOKIES pwede sab VETERANS VS. VETERANS OR ROOKIES VS. ROOKIES.. maayo siguro na nga terminology rather than SENIOR CITIZEN VS. JUNIOR CITIZEN, hehehe.. ang sagwa pakinggan... joke lang na ha.... baka magkaroon tuloy ng JUNIOR SENIOR PROM...as parting activities..hahahahaha...... anyway.. if we only give time for this affair... I think this is "AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER"..... precisely the most ''NOSTALGIC" moment is the last day... departure time going back to our present abode, the place where we now permanently resides....and say GOODBYE to DIATAGON once again.... that leaves a question in our mind.... "DIATAGON, WHEN WILL I SEE YOU AGAIN...???"(nakakaiyak naman.....)
