An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told
his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the
house building business and live a more leisurely
life with his wife enjoying his extended family.
He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire.
They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see
his good worker go and asked if he could build just
one more house as a personal favor. The
John and Mary had a comfortable home and two lovely children, a boy and a girl. John had been asked to go on a business trip to another city and would be gone for several days, so Mary decided to go along, and they hired a reliable woman to care for the children.
On their way back, as they drove into their hometown feeling glad to be back, they noticed smoke, and they went off their usual route to see what it was. They found a home in flames. Mary said, "Oh well it isn't our
